This Weekend...

Yes, it's almost the weekend, and you know what that means... only one day until fierce yo-yo spinners from all over the Northwestern United States descend upon Seattle Center! The 2009 Northwest Yo-Yo Championships will take place tomorrow at the Center House. Registration for participants starts at 10:00am, with the games to begin shortly thereafter. You can see the full schedule here. Admission is free.

If you're in the mood for a movie, check out Lola Montes at SIFF Cinema. Originally produced in 1955 and later restored, the film characterizes the life of a beautiful young dancer as depicted through a series of flashbacks. The showing starts tonight at 7:30 and runs daily through Thursday. Tickets are $10.00, with student discounts available.

On a higher note, Seattle Opera's production of Bluebeard's Castle with Erwartung opens tomorrow at McCaw Hall. Two tales of darkness, love and the forbidden regions of the subconscious come together. Tickets start at $25.00. Rounding out the weekend, National Geographic Live! presents Lisa Ling: Open Heart, Open Mind at Benaroya Hall on Sunday and Monday. Lisa Ling has served as a correspondent for both the National Geographic Channel and the Oprah Show; in this lecture, she'll share some of her most meaningful experiences.
